Museum of Broken Relationships

Let me tell you a funny story.

Sometimes things aren’t exactly what they seem to be on the surface.

A couple weeks ago in Zagreb, Croatia I passed a sign for the "Museum of Broken Relationships".

This stood out as being different and out of the ordinary.

I assumed it was a political museum about the old Yugoslavia or about the current tensions between all the former Yugoslav republics that are now on their own.

But I was wrong.

Dead wrong.

It turns out the Museum of Broken Relationships is not about any of that at all.

It's about failed love relationships and the personal objects that lost lovers have left behind.

Bras.

Underpants.

Stuffed animals.

Photographs.

Love letters.

And an axe that a woman used to chop an ex-lover's furniture to smithereens!

A unique museum indeed.

And not what it seemed to be from just the name.

Which got me thinking about how often we assume something even if we really don’t have any proof.

* Like when you assume that a seller would never take your low offer.

* Or you assume a marketing list is no good because you didn’t get a deal from it after just one mailing.

* Or when you assume an attorney/accountant/realtor actually knows what's best for you (or even actually knows what they are doing) just because they have a license.

* And the list goes on...

Making assumptions only leads to missed opportunities.

So don't assume anything.

Find out for yourself.

That'll give you healthy relationships.
