Is Worcester still ON THE MOVE?

Another Great article by Alex Guardiola of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce.

https://www.telegram.com/story...

Some additional thoughts to get your mind working.

Can Worcester keep things moving and:

  • 1.  Move the DPW and free up that space for new development by Shrewsbury street?
  • 2.  Create More Affordable Housing?

I think they can.

  • 1. The land on Albany street has great intrinsic value due to location with the proximity to Shrewsbury street, Union Station, St. Vincent's, UMass Medical School.  This is where people want to live to be "IN THE CITY".  There have to be places where they city could Buy or Lease space that has less value.
  • 2.  This one is tough.  With the 14% increase in population in Worcester over the last 10 years we simply need more housing of all types.  The news always talks about the big projects which get people thinking.  But what people don't realize is that there is a great deal of rehab/improvement and repositioning going on in the City.  Older buildings in bad shape have been bought by small investors who are putting more money into the City in terms of Rehab $$$.  Is this affordable housing?  Perhaps, with the rates that Section 8 is paying in the city, those with vouchers can do well.

The new issue will be to find housing for those who do not have access to a Housing Voucher.
