This was IT! Why I Took the Leap into Multifamily.
Fresh out of college, I got a pretty good job doing project management for a large company. I was making a decent income for someone my age, over $100,000 a year, traveling around the world, and living the good life. But then the lay-offs began.
I didn't get laid off. I was put in charge of laying people off.
I remember two main rounds, the second coming right after Thanksgiving. The higher-ups knew it was coming, but we couldn't tell anyone. Instead, they told us, "Don't go crazy on your Black Friday shopping." Then I got the word to make a second cut, right in the middle of the holidays.
One of the guys I had to let go couldn't find work right away and ended up losing his house, his family, and his car. I'm sure there was more to the story, but I caught word a little while later that he ended up taking his own life.
That crushed my soul.
That was it: I knew I couldn't keep doing what I was doing, so I walked away from my career to reignite my dream of becoming a property investor. But it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine from there. I'll tell you more next week.
Until next time,
