Back in my college days, I remember sitting on the front steps with my boy, Duron. We were both broke AF and wondering where all our money was going. The biggest bill at the time always seemed to be our rent.
I was paying $395 each month, and I had two roommates who were paying the same. Duron was in the same boat, so we started doing the math. When we added it up, we realized our complex was paying something like $700,00 a year. We didn't even know who that money was going to.
That was a major "ah-ha" moment for us, and it sparked an interest in investing in apartments and other multifamily units.
Of course, at the time, we had no idea of even where to get started. We were broke college kids. I was busy playing football and trying to keep my grades up. So that interest quickly got set on the back burner in favor of more immediate concerns. But it was still simmering.
When we left college, I got a great job for a construction company, managing properties and doing various other things. I was fortunate for the work I had, but investing in multifamily properties was never far from my mind.
Until next time,
