The Importance of E-Commerce

It seems like the more time goes by, the more useful internet gets, it’s like humans are discovering new possibilities of it daily and that it can cover just everything in our life. Today, we study using the internet, work, pay our bills, communicate with each other, get news from and now even shop there. Before it was simply our choice to do so, but now, after the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, we have no other way of doing the things that I mentioned above and the internet became our main source of needs.

One of the most important aspects of the internet is the topic of this blog, E-commerce, which includes services of buying or selling goods online, business-to-business buying or selling, gathering and using demographic data through social media, online financial exchanges and etc.

The great thing about e-commerce is that it allows you to get all things done from home, which is a necessity in today’s world. Online shopping was growing its popularity day by day even before the spread of pandemic since you can basically find anything online starting from small things like books, makeup, accessories and etc to huge deals like cars, houses or even tickets to another country.

“Global online shopping market size is predicted to hit 4 trillion in 2020. And in the US alone, we’re expecting to have 300 million online shoppers in 2023. That’s 91% of the entire country’s population.” - Coral Ouellette

But obviously, now it has turned from just a fun thing to the only way you could get your hands on certain things. Businesses like restaurants, food markets, book stores and etc, are currently actively developing online platforms for their customers to make purchasing their products much easier, as it is impossible for them to sell them outside the internet now that everything is closed and people are simply not allowed to go outside.

Which is why it is important for you to start working on it as well. The strong business is the one who adapts to the changes the fastest. If you don’t want your business to fail and your products to stay unnoticed, you should offer your customers an online alternative. Let’s face it, if you won’t do it now in hopes of everything getting back to normal soon, your customers will turn to your competitors and when everything will truly get back to normal, it might be too late and your past customers might not even remember you, the market will be dominated by the companies that managed to survive through it all and faced all the challenges smartly.
