I'm too young to be a real estate Investor!!
I'm too young to be a real estate investor. It's all about the old money. I'm broke. No time. I owe more in student loans than I earn in 3 years! They say you have to be a certain type... you know a certain skin pigment, the XY chromosome, certain accent...
These have been the thoughts in my mind for the past 18 months! and I have one word for all of them: BS! No body is ever too young to chase their dream. In fact, experienced investors admire young investors and want to help them out. Remember that they were in your shoes once!
The next big thing that made me hesitate was money! "You gotta have money to make money". No! You have to have passion and turn that passion into a goal and bust your behind to achieve that goal (This was a reference to one of DJ Khaled's snaps). Yes, money helps and you will need it eventually but if you can get a job at a Starbucks or offer your neighbor to cut their grass for $50 a month then you have the money you need. Again, as long as you have what DJ Khaled referred to: Passion! you can be a real estate investor.
Probably right next to the money excuse was the time excuse! I'm too busy. School is taking all of my time. I work 40 HOURS A DAY!! it takes too much time... So you're telling me you don't have 5-10 hours a week to get started. Just take a honest look at how you spend the 168 hours in the week. Lets just say you're hustling and working 60 hrs a week and love your 10 hour long sleeps. Let's say you spend 2 hrs a day doing your routine (eating, shower, etc). there is still 24 hours left on the clock! What will you do with this 24 hours? the answer to this questions determines your future! btw, if you're truly passionate about becoming successful you should be sleeping 6-8 hrs a day not 10! but that was just an example.
The last thing that I had to overcome was the hardest for me. This one is very personal and everyone's experience is different so instead of generalizing I will talk about my personal experience. It's true that you have an advantage if you are the same type as the crowd but it matters less than you think AND never underestimate your uniqueness. I'm a young immigrant dude with a name that no one can say! Without fail, every conversation starts with my log ass last name (and weird first name), which always made me feel the recessive type subconsciously. My accent didn't help and my baby face was no help either. Well, I overcame this by remembering what my soccer coach in 6th grade told me: "Don't be afraid to be unique!" From the age of 4, I fell in love with soccer. it was my thing! I spent every single summer playing soccer. There was one problem though, I was made fun of by my buddies cause I was left footed. I dribbled the ball weird, my style was weird and even worse... I found out that even my mom had forced me to use my right hand and leg when I was a baby. It really hurt my self esteem until... my 6th grade soccer coach picked me as the class captain and said: "Don't be afraid to be unique!" From that moment I realized that every soccer coach loves lefties because there aren't that many of us! you see my "weakness" became my strength.. In future years I was known for it among my friends. Every-time I get the ball now someone from the other team yells: "watch the lefty!" you know why? because in one of the indoor-soccer tournaments several years ago my team scored a total of 30 goals, 24 by me and out of that 24... 21 was a long distance shot by the same left foot that everyone made fun of one day! "Watch the lefty"! Damn right! Watch this lefty! I learned from experience that defenders and goalkeepers naturally assume you're left footed and their brain gets wired that way and I learned a very simple move which I call it "the fake". Basically I always dribbled with my right foot (Yes, I had to learn that but it was much easier than everyone thinks) to make the defenders think that I shoot the ball with the same foot but I did "the fake" moved the ball to my left and BAM!! Never be afraid to be the lefty!
I Just want to thank you if you have read to this point! I promise one more paragraph and I'm done :D
I just want to reiterate what DJ Khaled said: Passion is all you need as long as you turn it into a goal and put everything you have in it to achieve that goal the rest is just excuses!
With this, I am embarking my journey of becoming the most successful real estate investor that I can be.
