Where to start Investing

Greetings BP, as a new investor, I would like to share my doubts and receive your suggestions in the process of deciding where to make my first investment. I live in the city of NY and I am interested in deciding where to make my first investment since the markets that interest me are Providence RI, and Rochester NY. I have lived in both places but if comparing price and travel time I don't know which one to decide on. I am a handyman with a lot of experience in residential and commercial maintenance, so I would like to be close to my first investments so I could take care of the management and repairs myself. I really appreciate your comments and support thanks BP.
