Permit for add on. Who to contact?
I went to check out subject house and house is larger than what is listed. I could also see that there has been an add on. Who do I contact to see if that add on has a permit?

Out west we call it the building department, but it might be called "permitting" or something like that. Call the assesor's office and ask them who you contact to get a permit to add on to a house. They will transfer you to them.
Then make sure they check their town/city archives. We confirmed NOTHING outstanding on a subject multi-unit property (built/expanded/rehabbed in the 60-80's) only to have a bored Bldg. Insp. come back 18 months after closing with 14 old archived permits issued, but not signed off, over a period of 40 years. It was 24 months of rehabbing it to comply & NO grandfathering permitted.
