Should She File A Claim?

Does anyone know what effect filing a claim will have one one's ins policy and their ability to get homeowner's insurance in the future?

My Sister's leaking roof caused her dining room ceiling to fall down. Personally I don't think insurance covers this (please correct me if I'm wrong). But I've also heard over the years that filing a claim can hurt you in the future regarding getting property insurance. True?
