Coverage for mostly complete new construction
Hi all,
I have a strange insurance situation in Cape Coral, FL. I started a new build in 2021, and after three years had to fire my builder because it wasn't yet complete. Legal action in progress. I have a new builder now, but because the roof is already on and it is 80-90% complete, I can't find anyone who will write a builder's risk policy for it. It doesn't have a CO yet, so regular homeowners isn't an option. Does anyone know of any options for covering the structure until it is complete? My lender is requiring this and I need to find it ASAP. The house has been through two hurricanes now with no damage or flooding, so it is pretty low risk from that standpoint. I just need coverage for 2-3 months.
I have already tried a large insurance broker in Florida who had no options, and I've called around several other companies that also don't know how to handle it. Any ideas?
Pete
