Primary Home Insurnace

Hi guys,

Our primary home insurance company (Mercury insurance) is dropping us in April. Notice of non-renewal states “claims history”.

In Aug 2020 while living in an apartment in Northern California using a different renter insurance company (Liberty mutual) our garage was broken into. They paid out 3.5K in losses.

In Nov 2021 at our house in Southern California my wife left the car unlocked and someone stole her purse. Total cost was less than our $500 deductible so we didn’t use insurance but did call them to discuss.

I guess these two events are enough to kick someone off. Any recommendations on a good home insurance company?

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,
Each company has to file guidelines with each state for the products (home, auto, Business auto, etc) that they file with the state.  If you are using an agent, have them check Mercury's renewal guidelines to make sure the two claims would cause them not to renew based on those guidelines.

I would also contact several Independent Agents and have them quote the Homeowners in multiple markets.  Different companies will have different guidelines and the fact that one claim was at a different location or one claim was under the deductible may not count against you.
