My local advertising company is built on the EDDM platform, and while I am a strong believer of it, this program is generally not worth getting your brand out there in terms of wholesaling (unless you have a large budget that you would like to just use up at the end of the month).
I average between 40-50k pieces per month and a conservative response would be around 1%
Heres a quick breakdown:
EDDM:
Printing & shipping 5,000 6.5×9 Postcards…. $410
Shrink wrap into 100pc bundles………………… $40
Postage…………………………………………………. $800
Total…………………………………………………….. $1,250
Targeted:
Printing & Prep 1,000 6×9 Postcards…. $250
Mailing List for 1000 leads: $60
Postage…………………………….. $280 (standard class),$390 (first class)
Total…………………………………. $590 (standard), ($700 first class)
For the same cost, you could send two first class mailings to your targets by using a list. If wholesaler #1 did a 5,000 EDDM saturation mailing once and client #2 did a 1,000 targeted mailing twice, I can virtually guarantee that wholesaler #2 will get a much higher ROI.
These are loose numbers but you get the idea.
