Can someone please explain wholesaling to me?

So I have been very interested in getting into real estate. I was told that wholesaling would be a good first step with the amount of money I have at my disposal. Could someone please explain how wholesaling works, or point me to a good source that explains it in a simple way? I'm very new to all this so I don't really understand the lingo.
