Contractors will not submit bid

1. I have been working with a contractor I satisfied with for 3 homes. I'm small time maybe 2-3 homes per year. We have a new project and I thought his bid was high. He claims material pricing have risen, which is true, but not as much of an increase. Are you guys finding this to be true. I'm in Atlanta

2. I went to Real Investment clubs and found 3 guys with good reps. One kept saying he would show up and the other came out and I'm still waiting for his bid. The other never showed. Are contractors that busy now? Is it because I'm a small fry and they think I won't pay or that I sound like I know what I'm doing? Thoughts?
