Advice for new wholesaler and/or cash investors in Central VA area

I am trying to get started in the real estate investing business in the Central Virginia area, and would appreciate any advice from those of you in this field. I have always had an interest and a keen eye for potential investment properties, but have never had the funding to act on closing any of these potential deals. The research I have done, tells me that Wholesaling might be a good way for me to get my foot in the real estate door. I'm seeking advice on the best approach for wholesaling. I'm hoping that with any money I can make on finder's fees from wholesaling, I can put toward my own future investments.
Thanks,
Dan
