Foreclosure Good Area To Focus or Bad For Newbie

I am a newbie just getting started with wholesaling. I have a concern and not sure about the following things as  Newbie ...

1) Is Preforeclosure or Foreclosure a good or bad area for a newbie to specialize on, will it take longer to get deals as opposed to just getting on phone and calling for sale by home owners or advertising on facebook to find deals which would be easier but which would be more rewarding with higher profits

2) I live in NYC, how do i select an area or zipcode of NYC or Connecticut to focus on generating leads and sales from, are not so good areas bad places to find and flip those properties to investors or is it better to focus on good areas where investors may be more interested in buying properties, I am lost on how to select the areas I wish to farm and get to know the area and just work a few areas not to far from me I live in the Bronx
