How do I wholesale properties outside local area?

I am new to real estate investment. I live in a very small community and from the discussions I have had with the other small number of investors there are not many opportunities to do wholesale deals. I was wondering if anyone has experience performing wholesale deals outside of their local area possibly even out of state and how you need to approach the deals, find buyers and actually perform the deal
