Bandit Signs in Columbus, GA

I'm about to place an order for bandit signs but before I do was just wondering if anyone has any experience using them in Columbus, GA.  How many should I put out to start?  Do they still work to generate leads?  Are there better ways to generate leads (other than direct mail...too expensive right now)?  Thanks in advance.
