Best size for bandit signs

Ordering a bunch for our campaign and curious what others have found are the best sizes to use. 

Thinking some will be better for stake-in-the ground; 18x24 or 24x36 ?

And some will be better for posting on telephone polls and signs; 12x18 or even 9x24 ?

What have you guys found works the best?
