How to get my first wholesale deal?

Early this year I put up 25 bandit signs and got a call from a seller to sale 2 duplexes at 290 each.. once I got the call I called a guy I knew that handled deals all the time ..he pretty much kept me out of the process until closing date. I made $3000 But ever since then I've never been able to get a deal on my own ,I've put out about 1000 signs since then. If this were your first 3 months and you had to start all over again, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST PLEASE HELP GUYS ANY ADVICE HELPS
