What happens if Property Owner is deceased?

I have a lead on a property with no mortgage on it that is now vacant.  The property owner passed away in 2007.  It looks like his brother had been living at the property and he just passed away this year.  I've used BeenVerified.com and both of them had no other relatives listed.  What happens to the home if there are no heirs?  Or how do I find out if there are heirs?

Thanks

Melissa
