Is wholesaling illegal?

I am just starting to get into wholesaling and I keep seeing these people saying wholesaling is illegal.  I want to virtually wholesale and I'm not sure what market I am going to start in, but I just want to know in general if it is truly illegal.  Should I try something else or is wholesaling the way to go!?

There's ways to drive cars legally....There's ways to drive cars illegally. 

And the speed limits and rules of the road are different every where.
