HELP! Issue with address for Duplex.

Josiah Jno-Lewis
Posted

Hello. I just purchased a duplex and it is listed under a single address. This address is reflected in the land survey, tax collector, and mortgage. The property is listed as 1001 but the additional unit is listed as 1002. Both are on the same parcel/lot. I purchased this using an FHA loan and the address listed on the loan is 1001. I plan to live in unit 1002.

Would there be any issues with me living in the unit that is not listed as the main address for the property? A tenant will be living in 1001 and they may get my mail. I was also told that my driver's license and the property address have to match. Do I put the address on the driver's license as 1001 even if I'm living in 1002? How can I handle this?

Do I just list the unit that I'm planning to live in as my current address or do I have to list the main address? Other possible issues I may encounter with the address is with my home insurance, car insurance, and if the FHA does a check to see if I'm residing at the property.

I appreciate any advice or input to help me out with this! Thanks in advance!
