House Hacking Strategy in Manhattan, KS

Cody Gulseth
Posted

Hello,

I am new to real estate investing and was wondering if anyone has had any success house hacking in Manhattan, KS. It does not look like there are many duplexes, triplexes, or quadplexes in the area. I was wondering if maybe a townhouse would be a better strategy. I am in the military, so another market is not really an option. Thanks!

@Cody Gulseth thanks for posting. Yeah, in some markets there aren't very many 2-4 units because the land is so cheap. In Texas, they'll put a single family home on an acre of land. But in places like San Francisco 1 lot is $1million so they have to put multi-family just to make the numbers work. I would say to use your VA loan on a Single Family Home(SFH). Get in touch with some good realtors to help you find some. Maybe they could help you locate some 2-4 units as soon as they come on the market...or I wonder if there are garages there? Maybe even ADUs (Mother-in-Law Suites)? Just some ideas. I started out house hacking a single family home. Nothing wrong with just taking what the market gives you to start your career.

Thanks!
