Out of Country Investor ... how do you select the cities to invest in?

Hello,

I'm an out of country investor who can spend a limited amount of time being in the US the next year.  I need to identify the 1-3 cities to learn more about and eventually look for investment opportunities. I'm primarily focused on the following states given they have no state income tax:

1. Alaska · 2. Florida · 3. Nevada · 4. South Dakota · 5. Texas · 6. Washington · 7. Wyoming · 8. Tennessee

What is the fastest yet most thorough research path for an out of country investor to select cities in these states to invest in with potentially more opportunities? How would you go about selecting the cities to focus on.

Thanks.
