High rates of tourism for upstate NY?
I'm looking to invest in upstate NY and trying to get an understanding on which towns have high levels of tourism. Any feedback is appreciated.
Hi @Ellie Pappas up in Saratoga around the horse racing track there is a massive tourist scene that occurs from Mid July to Early September. There is also the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) which hosts concerts and shows. Other than that there isn't a ton of touristy typed opportunities in the capital region.

Saugerties has HITS which is a huge horse competition. Its kind of a If you Know then you KNOW sort of thing. Hudson, Woodstock, New Paltz, Beacon, Rhinebeck all have pretty crazy weekender traffic with hikers, apple pickers, etc. Then there are the winter towns Windham and Hunter which draw winter sports in the the colder months and Kaaterskill falls hikers in the summer. Then you have all the College and Performing arts center. There are a bunch of popular areas for tourism in the Hudson Valley honestly.
Thanks for your reply Trevor. Yes, agreed some of these places undoubtedly have high traffic. HOWEVER, places like Woodstock, for example are not currently giving out permits for short term rental stays. No one knows if or when this could change. I believe it's the same for Saugerties but I'd need to contact the town to confirm.

Depending on what part of "upstate" you're talking about... the Hudson Valley is huge all year round. In the winter, people trek from the city and Jersey to ski and stay in the nice "country" areas for holiday breaks. In the Summer, there's everything from mountains to hike, to Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center (the original Woodstock!) for summer concert series! There's tons of lakes, and therefore lake houses that do very well with short term rentals. Even in the fall, the Hudson Valley is booming because of the fall foliage and booming wedding season.
Thank you @Michelle Pepe. this is very helpful info!
