I'm new to BP, but recently went to a free Pathways event and thinking about doing their 3 day workshop. Any opinions on that program? Anyone actually completed it? Appreciate any response on this.

thanks..

What do you hope to learn from these seminars? In my opinion, there isn't a secret to success in real estate. Success comes from goal-setting, learning, and then taking actionable steps to reach your goals. Between BP, books, podcasts, and the internet as a whole, there is so much quality information to be had FOR FREE. Please be wary of seminars with "star power" featuring Joe Shmoe from the latest flipping show. Leave your credit cards at home and some learning on your own. Save your money to put towards your first investment after you educate yourself about which niche you'd like to focus your efforts on.

That's my two cents that I just gave you for free. You're already saving money.

Thanks for the reply Bob and Daniel.  I read the forum posts about the guru scan trap a few minutes ago and it did open my eyes. Like any newbie, I'm trying to learn as much as I can before getting too deep in and hopefully avoid some of the mistakes that newbies inevitably make. That's how I ended up on BP. I like what I've seen here so far and will continue to thread thru all the information here.

@Glen Frailey, aside from my day job as a Real Estate Broker, I teach a course I developed on Real Estate Investing, at the University of Toronto.

I have lost count over the years of how many professionals have come to take my course, and bemoaned the fact that they spent $299, $999, $1999, or even $11,999 on a "boot camp" or "intensive 2-3 day course" on Real Estate. I have literally never had someone, in 15 years, tell me that he or she truly valued such a course and made money in Real Estate because of it.

like everyone above mentioned, you have more than enough resources here to get started.  Having said that, those courses are fun, as it's great to be around like-minded people and get excited... I would just try to stay strong when they try to upsell you on other programs.  Just go to network and have fun if you really want to go!

This is the definition of scam: a dishonest way to make money by deceiving people. What they teach you is free in the internet and ilegal to do it in Ontario. Consult a real estate lawyer, your financial bank and RECO before you start this business. There are many places that you could network for free and I don't think I will have fun around liars and dishonest people. By the way, I lost all my respect for all the HGTV celebrities like Mike Holmes, Hilary Farr, Scott who gives their faces to cover these scammers and receive money in exchange by taking the money of vulnerable people like retired, laid-off and divorced people and make you believe that they help poor people by giving away or renovate homes!

Yes! Me and my mom went to the free seminar that was ever ties to show you how to flip houses. after the seminar they talked me and my mom in to paying $2000 total that includes two people to then goto a three day training, I am currently going to the third day of training tomorrow, but I can tell you that the book they gave me upon signing up for the paid 3day seminar classes has taught me more about flipping houses then the seminar has! the guy who speaks claims he is a million billion air whatever, all he talks about is BS tax write off's (his suit is considered a tax write off because it has his initials in it and it's considered a uniform) other than that I really haven't gotten any other valuable information from the class, and that really isn't even valuable information either because you still need to pay for it in the first place! basically the whole Point is the first assignment they make you do is to apply for three credit cards if you don't already have and then if you do have call and raise your current spending balance on your card which then intern they claim if you do this and that every three months your credit score will go up.. the guy who teaches the class is very hard to follow and if my mom was not a realtor and had to explain to me what he said and what it meant after he said it I would be totally lost, I am still lost and basically the whole point is after this they want you to then go to more training that's going to cost you between $25,000 and $42,000 they claim it's 100% moneyback guarantee, whether you go forward with their programs or not me and my mom simply signed up for the workshop because that has 100% guarantee that if in 6months you submit 25 deals to them using THEIR money(basically the whole reason why we spent the money to go to the further classes in the first place) I still haven't learned or figured out how that works.. then if you don't make your $2000 back in six months they will refund you your money.. we paid the 2000 dollars so that we could use their money to invest in properties.. they have a special program they use and they want to charge you $50 a month for that too!! I'm going to my third day of the class tomorrow and from here I'm not planning on signing up and paying $24-$45,000 for more seminars that I don't understand, I would rather use their money as they claim (we'll see how that goes) and the websites available for free out there to find properties and submit them and use their money to buy them ! so let's see how it goes I will update you guys once I start submitting deals and buying properties (which I still am not clear on how to do, threw them) but hopefully i will find out tomorrow and will let you know.. but if I knew what I knew now I would buy books on investing in properties, and if you have the money to do it on your own don't even bother signing up for their $2000 three-day 100% moneyback guarantee class..if you do everything they say you're supposed to and don't make your money back they refund it, so I thought that was a win-win, and you might want to try that if you can't afford to put up the money to invest in the properties.. I will keep you updated and let you know how long this takes me todo on my own and get my 2000$ back and see if the company stands behind me to be successful without spending any more money, so that I can actually start being able to make it..

Probably USA Private Money.  It is real funding, but the rates are not always the best.  Google it then go to the marketplace and you'll get twenty sources in about five minutes, SOME of which are better.

I've been where you are and I can tell you that although I appreciated the experience, I could have learned it all here.  Advantage is that it takes months to dredge it all out here and it takes days to get it in seminars.  Disadvantage is that after the days are over, it still takes months to understand most of it.  I"m satisfied that I got my money's worth, don't misunderstand me about that.  I learned an entirely new mindset and a different way of thinking about real estate investment, but there are other cheaper ways to do it also.  It depends on the individual.

All that being said, I continue to reach out for education and learning.  I'll pay $40 for a ten video course anytime, but multiple thousands are out.  The smartest advice I've seen here is save the money and use it for investments.  Works out better in the long run.

Hi, I allready let them foolish me and paid 350.00 dollars for great deal 3 day course. On the end of that course I learned that I have to buy now a 20,000.00 program to go on the next level because this course without that program worth 0. Paid 350 only to get a next level price? I didn't like to be foolished again. The storry starts teaching you about a three digit percentage of retourn a monney. My opinion is that the only one who wins are a pathway managers. Their system for me looks like "Get a free house with purchase of a half milion lawn arround a house" or "Get a free car from Ferrari with a purchase a 400.000 red  Ferrari T-shirt". Anyways this is only my experience and if you really want to be rich in a short time you are more than welcome to try how this courses will work for you. By the way Pathway teacher show us a high 5 star rating but after I figure out how this system really works I didn't find any link to rate them. BiggerPockets were a closest related link to tall in public how I fill after all. My rating will be arround 1/4 star from a magic 5 stars.

Pathway and its associated HGTV hosts are all in the scam together.  This company and the hosts need to be reported for traveling North America doing nothing but baiting people to spend useless money for NOTHING.  Scam.  Scam.  SCAM!

They are "making the rounds" here in the Bay Area again. JUST got a call from them on BOTH my cell phones, They start off saying they are calling on behalf of Mike Holmes of Pathway Seminars and BOTH times they called they emphasized the words Holmes and Pathway. It is NOT a coincidence they emphasize those two words because if you only focus on those two words it is very easy to think....I'll do a quick search on the Internet for "PATHWAY HOMES" or "HOMES PATHWAY". If you do this you will see some pretty good stuff regarding Fannie Mae and HUD Foreclosure Homes and it is VERY conceivable to think they are affiliated with this. Do Not be Fooled.

Since it's a recorded line I asked the person over the phone if they were affiliated with Fannie Mae and HUD Foreclosures and PATHWAY HOMES and (To her credit) she said no, but they do come across some HUD homes from time to time.

Stay AWAY..................Pay $300 for a weekend, then pay $5,000 for the good stuff at another weekend, then pay $25,000 for the REAL Seminar.......

Or you can get the info you really need right here at BP for free.....or at least pretty close to free...

Response, Cash Flow education is a Scam through and through.

My wife and I purchased the REI program through Pathway events and Cashflow Education, Response and whatever other names they are using, in Victoria BC. They put a big HGTV star to promote it our was Brian Baeumler. To make a long story short we, and ever other Canadian that took the same crse are disgusted that these people are aloud to operate in Canada especially since 90 percent of what they offer are not applicable to canadians ,i.e the so called investing in Government buildings, the use of their money so you can wholesale without using your own money, the high rate of return on foreclosed properties, everything they promised was either not available or had been overstated. During the crse, which is more a motivational speaker to pump you up get you excited and saying yes they then hit you with the incredible offer that you can only take advantage of today or you won,t have the chance. Then while you are all excited and happy they get you fill out the "how we did survey"which when we filled it out was befor we tried to put their practices to use. They will then bring up this 4.8 star rating you gave them to say," well according to your survey you loved it so we will not be giving your money back. Then once you have paid the 25000 USD for the diamond Elite Package they say will teach you to be a Real estate guru. and get you on your way. They say, hey pretty hard to get things going isnt it, how about the Super advance crse for another $10000- $16000 we will do everything. And that is the way they will continue. More training more money. The point being this is just like The Trump University Scandel.

They promise the world, tell you max you to max out your credit cards to pay them and then only give you some of what was promised.

In closing I would be happy to talk with anyone who is thinking of giving their money to these Swindlers.  Stay away from, RESPONSE, Cashflow education ect. If you Google them and their home offices are in Utah stay away.

    Be wary,

    Cam Stewart

i just signed up with these people on Saturday. It sounded really good but I don't like the idea of taking $1000 from me and giving me the impression that their going to give me all the information to get me started. If they are going to charge thousands of dollars and push me to Max my cards, I want a refund!

    Hi Lauren,

I know it’s been years later and just seeing if you can update me on what ending up happening with this real estate investing thing.

I am just bringing it up because I did go to the 2015 event in Edmonton and got to meet Mike Holmes and thankfully I didn’t have enough money to pay for these classes, but I just don’t understand in the first place way Mike was there and I was so confused about the whole thing and now the internet and instagram scammers are posting untruthful stories about him because scammers are all making trying to scam people using his face through bitcoin era company. So my question is back then in 2015 was Mike working with these scammers who were promoting this real estate investing scam??
