Attention Out of State Investors in Alabama: Where/How do you open an LLC online?
While I´m sure a Google search can find me this answer, I just want to make sure I don´t land on some scammy website that doesn´t actually create the LLC for me.
I am assuming there is a way to do this online, right?

Here are the steps on how to start an LLC in Alabama, but some can be applied in other states as well:
- Choose a name for your LLC. Your LLC name must be unique and cannot be the same as any other LLC in Alabama. You can check the availability of an LLC name on the Alabama Secretary of State's website.
- File a Certificate of Formation. You can file a Certificate of Formation online here https://www.sos.alabama.gov or by mail. The filing fee is $200.
- Choose a registered agent. A registered agent is a person or business that will receive legal notices on behalf of your LLC. You can appoint yourself as your own registered agent, or you can hire a registered agent service.
- Get an EIN. An EIN is a tax identification number that is required for businesses. You can apply for an EIN online here https://www.irs.gov or by mail.
- Create an operating agreement. An operating agreement is a document that outlines the rules and regulations of your LLC. It is not required by law, but it is a good idea to have one.
- Get business insurance. Business insurance can protect your personal assets in case of a lawsuit. There are many different types of business insurance, so you should talk to an insurance agent to find the right coverage for your business.
- Open a business bank account. A business bank account will help you keep your personal and business finances separate.
- File your annual report. Every year, you will need to file an annual report with the Alabama Secretary of State.
