New England investment areas and strategies.

Hi,
Im a new investor and looking for potential areas to invest. Im located in New york city and looking to invest either in pennsylvania or New England. Which areas should I look into (there are so many and i dont even know where to begin looking)? Also, Although many strategies can be applied, which strategy would you advise for a first time home buyer. (I was thinking of buying a multifamily with tenants already living there somewhere in the springfield, Ma or Hokyoke area). any thoughts?

Thanks so much!
