First time home buyer

Juan Bautista
Posted

I’m in the process of getting my first home loan, plan on buying a duplex to live in for a year and then renting out both units after. Is it a good idea to hire a real estate agent? I prefer not to because I think I can find a good deal on my own, but could it really affect me if I don’t? Thanks

@Juan Bautista, if the house is listed with another agent then typically your buyer's agent is paid by the commission offered by the seller. So, it doesn't cost you anything.

Also, there is a LOT more value to having an agent work with you than "finding a good deal".

Deals are negotiated and someone experienced at that will be able to help you through that. You aren't paying cash, so an agent can help you make decisions about the terms to offer such as seller's assist, inspections and mortgage contingencies etc.

When issues come up with inspections they can help you work through those by getting more information or negotiating solutions with the seller.

There is a LOT more value than "finding a deal" to having an agent work with you.
