Land Transfer Tax - might be a problem

Hi,

I am not sure I am in the right forum.

We moved to Ontario from Spain and recently purchased a house we moved to about a month ago

We were under the impression that as first time home buyers we were eligible for a rebate. We had never owned a home in Spain as such but a few days ago we found out that we wouldn't be eligible even if the house was given to us as a gift (the house was registered under my mother in law's name) but we sold it prior to moving

what do we do now?

Will this be audited and f so, can they find out about our previous home in Spain?

How can we rectify the mistake?
