Renting per room a good idea?

I just closed on a house that has two inherited tenants that were paying $400/month each. One lady is living in a shed in the backyard. Lol. They seem like great tenants and want to stay. I told them if I could get a few more people for a total of $2,000/month I would let them stay. But I need to find others. Or lease out the shop/garage in the back to make extra $. Any pros or cons doing this?

I would say that can work with student housing sometimes (although it's not ideal) but I would generally recommend against it and it just makes things messy and tougher to manage.
