Tenet as Property Manager

Iesha Padilla
Posted

My husband and I are new landlords and want to know if we should ask one of our tenet families that has been here for about 15 years on a month-to-month basis if they would like to be our property managers once we leave CA and head to Texas in a year.

It is a 4 unit property. And the tenets that we are thinking of asking seem to really have pride of rentership. Also, if we did go this route, would it be smart to offer them a discount on rents for their services?

Thanks in advance everyone... I’ve been told, that no question is a dumb question.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to ask them to help you out, but I’d be careful about referring to them as property managers. Just for your liability!

There are some great threads about managing from OOS. Take a look at those and see if you’re up for the challenge! If you are, it sounds like they could be great “boots on the ground” people.
