Waste Management - Getting out of trash hauling for apartments?
Recently Waste Management started using "Smart Trucks" that take pictures of every dumpster pickup. At one of our properties, they began charging $250 for every time a dumpster lid cannot fully shut. As an apartment owner this means that any time a resident (or neighbor) throws a mattress or couch in the dumpster, WM is imposing a fine. Fines started exceeding our monthly trash hauling bill.
I protested but with no success. We had no choice but to fire WM and hire another company.
We tried to pull-ahead the changeover to the new company, but they said they were overwhelmed with the amount of new business they were getting from apartment complexes.
Recently WM started hitting one of our other properties with fines. Unlike a store where only employees take out trash, I cannot prevent residents from discarding furniture. As a result, I can only conclude that WM is exiting the apartment business but trying to rake in as much profit as it does so.
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
