Managing an out of state property as a beginner

Parker Robertson
Posted

Hey everyone,

As a beginner, is it advisable to manage your own property from out of state?

Context:
Currently, I’m househacking my property and living for cheap, but plan on moving for my partners job sometime next year. I currently have my friends as tenants in two of the rooms that would likely choose to stay as long as rent remains the same.

Questions:

Is it worth the headache to attempt to do this on my own from a different state with no experience?
Would a property management company work with me if I wanted to rent by the room if I already had preferred tenants?
What has been your experience using a property manager? How did you find one you trust?

Please let me know if you’d like more details or clarification. Thanks in advance!
