Property Management - what fees can they charge?

Catherine Bruzon
Posted

I'm new to this rental property business and not sure what is "normal" with regards to the fees a property management company charges the property owner. I've been using a property management company for the past year. We renewed May 2022.  All of a sudden they charge me a wire transfer fee which they deducted from the August monthly rent payment. When I asked about it, they said they cannot "cover" this fee for me anymore. Their response was laughable since I never asked them to "cover" anything for me, they never discussed this with me or sent me a notice or even suggested other no- or low-cost options for them to send the rent money. I've been patient with them since I am their first client but the way they handled this sent me over the edge. The wire transfer fee was nominal but it's the principle. My question to those with more experience in this world of dealing with property management companies - is it normal for them to charge the property owner a payment fee? TIA
