Security deposit standards

Hello friends! New to this area and I’m trying to figure out what the standards and laws are for things claimable on security deposits. Specifically looking north toward Vienna/Arlington area if it makes a difference. I’m not finding a link and want to make sure that I’m not dragging other regions’ practices to here. Does anyone have a link that I’m not seeing or know where things like what amount of wall damage merits claiming against the deposit? Thanks!
