Renters Insurance - Require per unit or for each tenant?
I am now requiring tenants to carry renters insurance, and I have only had units occupied by one tenant each. However, I recently approved two unrelated people to live together and they asked if each of them needs to carry a policy, or just one.
Do you require each tenant to have a policy, or do you require each “unit” to have a policy?

Some insurance companies will allow them to purchase insurance together, but many will require them to have their own policy. That part is not important to you. What's important is that you require them to carry X amount of liability insurance, they name you as additional insured or additional interest, and you get proof of this no later than [DATE]. If they get separate policies or a shared policy doesn't matter to you; they just have to meet your requirements.
Here's an article that explains additional interest and additional insured: https://www.bankrate.com/insurance...
