Emailing Craigslist (for rent) ads to get leads

Hello!  

Has anyone had luck emailing (for rent) ads and telling them your interested in buying? It is getting harder and harder to find deals so i want to try calling for rent signs and replying to online for rent ads. Does anyone have a template for the emails? Is this a waste of time?
