P.O Box?

This may seem like an odd question but I see most investors use P.O. Boxes. As a fairly new investor it seems like an expense I don't really need.

Im about to do a 1500 postcard mailing, and may just have the return to senders come to my physical address as opposed to getting a P.O.

Why do you use one?

Terry -
Do you really want people to know your personal address? The first time you run into a crazy person while marketing or doing other activities in real estate, you'll learn that having your personal addy out there can be dangerous.

You'll also note that most experienced investors also do business under an LLC or other entity. The reason is the same - to protect you, not only from liability, but also to protect you from those people you deal with in the biz.

If you were landlording - would you want a tenant to know where you live so they can knock on your door when there is a problem?

If you're prospecting and piss someone off because they are losing their home, do you want them to know how to find you?

I think your question is a great one, and I hope I was able to answer it for you.

Good luck and go get yourself an appropriate business entity and PO Box - it is the cost of doing business; if you can't afford at least that, you probably aren't ready to get started.
