UBIT in a self-directed IRA

If UBIT is owed from a self-directed IRA, does the IRA pay or the individual owner pay? I suspect the IRA must pay the tax, otherwise it's a prohibited transaction. Is that correct? Can anyone reference the related tax code for me so I can look it up?
