Contacting owner of property on MLS

New investor here, so I apologize if this is a completely bonkers question.

I hear a lot about how as real estate investors we should be out to solve problems, but to find out those problems we need to be able to talk to the seller. Is there anything ethically/legally wrong with contacting the seller of a property who has already listed it on the MLS? It's easy to look the owner up via county records. I just want to get a conversation going that's more valuable than just firing offers their way.
