Almost Expired Listings

Has anyone mailed to listings on the MLS that have been on the market for over 180 days and are about to expire? Would that interfere with their listing contract? If you wait until they expire, I imagine they get flooded with letters.

@Kathy Armstrong - one of the advantages of being a Realtor is that you can access the standard Realtor contracts. Most listing agreements have a clause that says something to the effective of this - "if somebody becomes aware of your home for sell through my marketing efforts as a Realtor and/or the MLS before the listing expires, and then they buy the home after it expires but before 90 days, then you the seller still owe me the listing agent a commission".
