Tenant screening - Potential tenant cosigned and has eviction on record

Hello, 

what do you do when a potential tenant has co-signed for a lease and that person got evicted?

the record shows on the potential tenant's record but it's not in his name - because he co-signed.

any advice?

I know cosigning on a lease is the same as signing a lease.
