Background Check for a Foreign Student

We currently have an inquiry from a group of foreign students that are interested in renting our property for 4-5 months. They seem willing to provide a welcome letter from the university as well as proof of income so I am not worried about their intentions but we still want to do a background check since this is the process we have established for screening tenants. We normally have all applications and background checks done through Zillow but since they do not currently have a US IP address, they are not able to apply through Zillow. What background services have other's used in the past for foreign students and what information do we need to ask from them in order to complete this background on their behalf?
