Income length requirement for rental applications?

I have just posted my first apartment for rent and I've noticed that a few applicants have recently started new jobs within the last 3 months. Their income level is fine, but does anyone require additional history of income from these applicants to show they've been consistent for a couple years or so? Or does that not really matter a lot and it's just a situation of verifying that their job now is safe and secure?
