Another leading indicator of purchase activity: mortgage applications. Average purchase applications in April and May have moved lower. As of 2022, over half of millennial households were homeowners, which still leaves many more young households who want to make the same transition. We need more inventory and a boost in affordability to entice these buyers off the sidelines.
