Just another friendly reminder against having rents below market…

I have a family that’s been renting a place from me for 6 years. They are paying $1,450/mo (3 year lease) while I rented out an identical place on the same street for $2,000/mo last august.
When their lease comes due Aug 1st I was going to raise it to $1,700. I sent them a renewal a couple weeks ago hoping to beat this. If this becomes law before they sign, they will be kicked out and I’ll be selling. I’m not going to rent it for $1,525.

I don’t know if I could get sued if I told them to sign before it became law or if that could be called threatening them. So I won’t be contacting them and they’ll have 60 days to move and probably pay much more than $1,700 if this passes. I truly hope they are watching the news and hoping for this to pass. At least then I would be the only “innocent” victim.

Another lesson in “unintended consequences”.
