Redfin skewing data and trying to create a false narrative...
Redfin just released the results of a survey but seem to presenting the data a very slanted way. The title of the article reads
"More Than Half of U.S. Homebuyers and Sellers Want to Live Somewhere With Legal Abortion, Up From 40% a Year Ago"They then continue to provide data from a recent survey performed by "Qualtrics" that questioned "1,000 people who recently bought a home or plan to buy or sell a home."
Below is a chart which outlines the year over year data from the question.
The first thing we can take away from these results (other than the small sample size), is that the two least selected answers for both 2021 and 2022 are "I will only live in a place like this, and I will not live in a place like this". That represents 27% of the surveyed individuals in 2021 and 30% of surveyed individuals in 2022. That means that at least 70% of respondents do not have a hardline stance on the topic and will not base their living decision off it.
Further, another way we can present the data is by those who either "will only live in a place like this" and those who "prefer to live in a place like this". Individuals who will only, or who prefer to live in a place with legal abortion represents 52% or respondents, and those who prefer not to live in a place with legal abortion or don't care represent 48%. Survey results this close (within 1-2 points) are generally considered within the margin or error.
Redfin, however, did not provide specific data/ methodology about the survey. For instance, which areas were surveyed? What percentage of individuals were in more "conservative" areas, and what percentage were in more "liberal" areas? This is a critical question and cannot be ignored. Polling and marketing companies often deploy surveys that will generate their intended results.
Back to the topic at hand, a Marist Poll was conducted this year and surveyed 4,000 people. This poll revealed that only 17% of Americans support abortions without restrictions or "fully legal abortions". Over 71 % of people support a variety of restrictions.
When looking at the data, we can see that a overwhelming majority of Americans do not support "full abortion rights".
The Redfin article continued to champion for a variety of other social issues generally supported by a certain political party. These topics include gun control laws, gay marriage, gender affirming care for children, laws prohibiting discussion of LBTBQIA2S+ in schools, and voting rights/ vote by main (plus others.)
Their survey results and commentary was even more disconnected from recent national polls on these topics than it was on abortion.
Has Redfin "news" become a leg of the "social justice movement"?
