Expectations with $1M bankroll

Hi everyone. I'm coming from a long career in tech and recently retired. I've always been interested in real estate and now that I've got all the time in the world, I'm looking to explore the possibilities. I've got about a million dollars that I'm looking to invest but I have some basic newbie questions that I hope some of you guys can answer.

I'm looking to build wealth and a big portfolio. I'm not interested in buying a property and renting it out for the next 20 years. Is BRRRR the best way to go about it considering my aims? I'm not entirely familiar with the possibilities and ROI with real estate if I have to be fair. I've obviously got a large starting capital that I'd like to multiply but I have no idea how much time it would take to (potentially) 2x, 5x, 10x my money.
